In our brand-new 'love local' blog series, we're celebrating the wonderful people behind Nottinghamshire's local, independent businesses. We’re continuing the series with a guest blog from Antonia Disney, the owner of Focus Gallery, Nottingham’s oldest surviving independent gallery, and recently home to Nottingham Jewellery School.

“Among the beautiful works of contemporary art and craft in Focus Gallery, beyond the hum of jewellers working, is a treasured and safely kept 1980s newspaper cutting:

Puts Individual Art on Map’, it says – a theme that began with Focus’ first owner Norman Rowland way back in 1971.

The first thing you notice […] is the enthusiasm in [Norman’s] voice. It goes some way to explain why he has been so successful in promoting the arts in such a practical way.’

My team and I are just as passionate, offering exhibitions and dramatic large-scale statement artworks as well as bespoke giftware and jewellery - you really can find the perfect gift for anyone.

Or perhaps try one of our workshops, from all kinds of jewellery classes to ceramics, glass and more, the specialist tutors create a real centre for excellence at this admired gallery.

We have built on the hard work of all the previous owners and together have created a place which is really special to us and so many others. We are extremely proud to support local artists and to bring interesting art to the public.”
