In 2020 JLS once again stole the hearts of fans as they announced a highly anticipated comeback tour. Shortly after, the band signed under a new record deal and began preparing the release of their fifth studio album ‘2.0’. After being rescheduled to 2021, the tour finally reached Nottingham for its first night at the sold-out Motorpoint Arena Nottingham. The Visit Nottingham team was kindly invited down by Motorpoint Arena Nottingham to join an electric night of JLS’ greatest hits and the latest singles off their new album!

Waiting outside the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham, the buzz and excitement rushing through the waiting fans was tantalising, already giving a precedent of the night ahead. We headed over to the hospitality ticket window where we were greeted and promptly given our tickets. A bag search and check of our COVID passports followed before we were shortly let in. The team at Motorpoint Arena Nottingham ensured the process was efficient, friendly, and helpful as always.

As the excitement grew, we were welcomed into our hospitality box; a private viewing balcony fully equipped to ensure we could socialise in complete comfort. Each hospitability box receives full waiting service throughout the event, in which we received ample drinks and delicious platters of food.

Bellies satisfied, we settled down to enjoy the support acts and local radio DJ as they continued to hype up the crowd. Not before long, the lights dimmed, and JLS’ set began. Four black panthers inched towards us on the big screen, closer and closer, before JLS shot up from the stage floor and took us straight into their dance hit ‘The Club is Alive’.

Their set included some of their biggest hits such as ‘Beat Again’, ‘One Shot’, ‘Eyes Wide Shut’, ‘Eternal Love’ and ‘Love you More’ which had the entire stadium singing and dancing. Arguably what brought the concert to life was the connection with the fans. The band constantly spoke and interacted with the buzzing crowd, sometimes even getting the crowd to choose their next song.

The band’s performing, and vocal abilities have certainly not changed, despite their decade-long hiatus. We were completely in awe of their live performance! Towards the end of the evening, the boys wished the crowd a Goodnight before heading off the stage.  However, the crowd screamed for one more. In response to the crowd’s cries, JLS fittingly came back on stage, lit with their trademark colours; Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow, to close with ‘Everybody In Love’. It was a beautiful end to a night that made us feel young again by reawakening our inner noughties fangirl/boy!

A big thank you to everyone at Motorpoint Arena Nottingham who made it such an enjoyable and easy experience. It’s often you forget how much work goes into running these events, and ensuring that everyone enjoys the concert, above all, safely. Everyone we encountered was professional, friendly, and approachable. We’d recommend checking out some of the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham's unmissable upcoming events.
