Finding a family activity that keeps everyone happy can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. With a 9 year old, a 19 year old, and two weary parents in tow, the odds are usually stacked against us. But for a recent birthday treat for the youngest of the clan, we struck gold, or in this case, a golden arrow when we stumbled across Escapologic, Nottingham’s very own escape room adventures right in the city centre.

After chatting with the super friendly team (and confessing our concerns about keeping both kids engaged while also avoiding parental brain meltdown), they suggested we try Robin of Lockskey – a brilliantly punny nod to our hometown hero. The quest…recover the golden arrow and use it as ransom to free the kidnapped Sheriff of Nottingham. Easy, right?

We stepped into what looked like the Sheriff’s office, nothing out the ordinary at first glance, but the moment the door clicked shut, the clock started ticking. Sixty minutes on the countdown and the chaos began: four people frantically rummaging, shouting “Look what I found!” every ten seconds. It was pure mayhem…until the room began revealing its hidden secrets.

I won’t give away the surprises (spoilers are strictly outlawed in Sherwood), but let’s just say there were twists, turns, and clever puzzles that had all of us, from youngest to oldest completely hooked. And yes, we did succeed. We found the golden arrow, freed the Sheriff, and somehow made it out with our marriage intact, though the sibling rivalry got a decent workout!

Our proudest moment…seeing our victorious team photo on the Escapologic Hall of Fame, grinning like conquering heroes, with 11 whole minutes to spare no less.

So, if you’re in Nottingham and need something to keep your mixed age crew happy, a trip to Escapologic might just be your perfect escape.
