Alexandra & Tom Ridout Quintet: Cannonball Adderley at The Lighthouse

Multi-award-winning brother and sister Tom Ridout (saxophone) and Alexandra Ridout (trumpet) reunite for this very special show, joined by younger brother Lester Ridout on drums! Expect an exceptionally hard-swinging band with brilliant soloing. "Alex Ridout is the real deal!" - Kit Downes

"fiery, focussed soloing by impressive tenor saxophonist Tom Ridout" –  Selwyn Harris- Jazzwise

1960. The Lighthouse Cafe, Hermosa Beach, California. Cannonball Adderley's quintet – with trumpeter Nat Adderley – tears through a live set for the ages, laying down classics like "Sack O' Woe," "Blue Daniel," and "What Is This Thing Called Love." Tonight, we bring it back to life – Alexandra Ridout on Trumpet, Tom Ridout on Alto Sax, in the hot seats and ready to swing!

At just 27, multi-award-winning trumpeter Alexandra Ridout is already one of the most talented voices on the international jazz scene. Since winning BBC Young Jazz Musician in 2016, she's been catapulted into a high-profile career, captivating audiences ever since – picking up the British Jazz Awards "Rising Star" (2018), Keep an Eye International Jazz Awards "Best Soloist" (2023), and the Next Jazz Legacy 2025 Award (New Music USA) along the way.

Her distinctive voice is sought after by top musicians worldwide, keeping her busy gigging, touring and recording across America and Europe with artists including Samara Joy, Artemis, George Garzone, Kit Downes, Dayna Stephens, Toninho Horta, Melissa Aldana, Arturo O'Farrill, Dave Douglas, The Mingus Big Band, Miguel Zenón and Pablo Held, among many others.

Hailed by Jazzwise as one to watch back in 2012, saxophonist Tom Ridout has lived up to that promise ever since. A Royal Academy of Music graduate and 2016 BBC Young Musician Jazz Award finalist, his accolades include the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award and the Lancaster Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Commission, and he's played iconic stages from Ronnie Scott's to Buckingham Palace. His debut album "No Excuses" drew rave reviews and UK radio play.

Tom's distinctive voice is heard across the UK jazz scene, keeping him busy performing not only with one of his own (many) bands but also with Billy Marrows' Grande Família, The James Taylor Quartet, Clark Tracey, Patchwork Jazz Orchestra and Tristan Mailliot's Chick Corea Project, alongside performances with artists including Gregory Porter and Dave Holland.

Just as with Cannonball and Nat Adderley on the original recording, that sibling musical rapport is unmistakable here too – with the added bonus of younger brother Lester on drums, part of one of London's most exciting and swinging young rhythm sections.
"Alex Ridout is the real deal!" –  Kit Downes
