About

Saturday 25th May | 2024 | 9.30am to 4.30pm
Hanwell Wine Estate
£125.00 per person

This is your chance to make your very own wonderful willow weaved basket, duck or obelisk. Spend a day learning the art of traditional Willow weaving with expert and local tutor Jean.

You can make one of the following:
Basket (round with no handle) - create a stunning functional basket, perfect as a centerpiece on your kitchen table, to hold fruit, bits and bobs or maybe dried flowers.
Duck - create an eye-catching gorgeous Duck or large bird.
Obelisk - a useful structure for your garden to grown sweet peas up.

Please state at the time of booking which item you would like to make in the 'comments' box so we can prepare the willow.

A unique and satisfying experience learning to work with locally sourced willow in the beautiful surroundings of Hanwell Wine Estate. Jean, your tutor, will take you through a journey teaching you the basics of working with willow. She will share with you her years of experience and knowledge of tools and materials to use.

All items can be made by both complete novices and people with experience of using willow. All materials and tools are provided along with refreshments throughout the day and a two-course homemade lunch served with a glass of wine. We know some people like to use their own tool so if you would like to then bring any of the following - Secateurs, scissors, natural string/garden string, a sharp penknife or Stanley knife, a large damp towel or something of the sort to keep your work damp and a pinny too if you wish.

Please note - due to the nature of the willow that tends to dry out quickly the workshop will take place either outside or in our tasting room with a small heater so the room doesn't get too hot. We recommend you wear layers.

"The beauty of this once commonplace craft is now an increasingly rare craft"
