"The more you listen, the more there is to discover." – Bob Harris
"A great narrator on top form." – The Observer ****
For over fifty years, Steve Tilston has been one of the finest musicians in the English folk scene. Brought up in Leicestershire, Steve released his debut album in at the beginning of the 1970s and has been capturing the hearts of all who have seen him ever since. In the summer of 2025, Steve released Last Call, which is to be his final album. We're tremendously proud to bring him to Nottingham to play Peggy's Skylight and celebrate this landmark record and the extensive, celebrated career that has preceded it'
In 1971, John Lennon read an interview with Steve and wrote a heartfelt letter of encouragement to the young artist. It promptly got lost in the mail, and Steve did not get to read it until 2010, when a collector brought it to him for authentication. The story was turned into the acclaimed Hollywood film Danny Collins – not many Folkroom headliners can claim to have been portrayed onscreen by Al Pacino!
Even with Lennon's warm wishes lost somewhere in a Royal Mail sorting office, Steve forged a noteworthy career on the British folk circuit. He has released over a dozen albums, and his compositions were covered by Fairport Convention among others. In 2012 he won a BBC Folk Award for Best Original Song.
Last Call, his latest (and last) studio album, is among his finest work to date. It captures a career in microcosm – stunning interpretations of traditional songs, breathtaking instrumental finger-picked guitar, and rich, vivid songwriting that is reflective without leaning on nostalgia.
