Mother's Day comes around again on Sunday 27 March 2022 and there are some wonderful events happening across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, from relaxing treats and scrumptious afternoon teas, to memorable days out and unique experiences.
Below we have compiled some of the best events, special offers and places to visit across the city and county to get you inspired, so you can have a great day together and celebrate the wonder of these brilliant women!
Get Creative
If your mum is the creative type, there are a number of workshops over the Mother’s Day weekend, from the crafty to the arty.
Over at the gorgeous Hanwell Wine Estate they're hosting an Acrylic Landscape Painting Workshop, Felt Bowl Workshop and Bentwood Chair Making Workshop, guided and demonstrated by an expert tutor. Taking place within their 100sqm craft barn, you'll take in the estate's beautiful surroundings for inspiration. All tools and materials are provided, as well as refreshments, such as a scrumptious homemade 2-course lunch and glass of local wine included in some of the workshops! Further within the estate, you can take your mum on a leisurely stroll around the serene vineyard and lake or treat her to a bottle (or two!) of beautiful locally grown wine within the estate's wine shop.
If your mum loves whipping up beautiful crafts she may want to try Debbie Bryan’s Mother’s Day events. Enjoy a delightful Afternoon Tea in their picturesque Lace Market gallery and tea room before indulging in ceramic painting where you’ll be able to paint your own beautiful designs onto a vintage ceramic saucer. Or, later in the afternoon, join their Cream Tea & Craft experience where you’ll indulge in homemade treats before being introduced to gilded design as you design your own gilded tea light.
Historic Treats
Travel just a short way out of the city and you can find a number of gorgeous historic venues that will certainly delight in their beautiful landscapes and magical surroundings.
Treat your mum like the queen she is at the exquisite Belvoir Castle over the Mother’s Day weekend with a indulgent Afternoon Tea. Enjoy champagne, sandwiches, handmade scones and pastries served in the regency-style tea room of the Castle in which Afternoon Tea was invented! Upgrade your visit to include a free-flow tour around the castle, which was a key filming location in all three series of the regal blockbuster, The Crown.
With spring just on the horizon, it’s the ideal time to get out and explore the newly blooming flowers. You and your mum can enjoy an amble amongst the snowdrops at Belvoir Castle whilst soaking up the beautiful crisp spring air.
Explore Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum, a not-for-profit museum dedicated to commemorating and keeping alive the mining and social history of the area! They will be offering homemade cakes and tea for free to celebrate this special day. The museum has an incredible collection of artefacts and memorabilia amassed over years from several donations, and entry is completely free.
Unique Events
If a spot of live music is your mum's thing, sit back and relax as the University Choir and Philharmonia take you on a musical journey with a distinctly European flavour. Or head down to the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham to enjoy a cutting-edge musical production of War of the Worlds, starring Strictly’s Kevin Clifton as The Artilleryman and Blue’s Duncan James as Parson Nathaniel.
Over at Peggy's Skylight, celebrate Mother's Day with an afternoon and evening of Jazz. Their warm and inviting venue is hosting two shows on this special day. For the first show, the exceptional Pat McCarthy Quartet alongside Shanon Reilly will deliver a spellbinding performance sure to get your feet tapping! Their second show is free to enjoy and will invite professional or amateur musicians to perform with Peggy’s house band to showcase jazz repertoire to a listening audience.
Alongside Peggy’s captivating live music, you and your mum can enjoy their mouth-watering mezze menu; small speciality dishes of joy from around the world. Peggy’s Skylight is one of a few Jazz Clubs outside of London and therefore is a popular venue! To avoid disappointment, reserve a seat for one of these shows as soon as possible.
