The Fourmasons present: A Legacy of Blue Note
Excited to return to Peggy's for a Blue Note-themed night! The Fourmasons will be performing original tunes and arrangements written by the band, along with compositions by legendary artists like Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Hermeto Pascoal, and many more.
Founded in 1939 by Alfred Lion, Blue Note Records is loved, respected, and revered as one of the most important record labels in the history of music. Blue Note Records are designed to serve the uncompromising expressions of hot jazz or swing. Direct and honest hot jazz is a way of feeling, a musical and social manifestation.
Formed in 2016, The Fourmasons is a collective of Midlands based jazz musicians from diverse backgrounds in music. The band play a regular schedule of monthly residency events in various trio, quartet and quintet formats.
For this performance, the ensemble is led by drummer Lee Allatson (Paul Dunmall/John Russell) with Peter Houtman on piano (Alan Skidmore/Dick Pearce), Fino Lopes on bass (George Martin/David Murray) and Ryan West on tenor sax (Jazz Colossus/Liane Carroll).
The Fourmasons live set covers a century of classic jazz standards, Real Book tunes, Modern and Contemporary jazz composition and a variety of Latin American and World music styles: tunes by the likes of Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Hermeto Pascoal, Dexter Gordon, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Henry Mancini, Charlie Parker, John Abercrombie and Duke Ellington. Their repertoire also integrates original tunes and arrangements written by the band.
The band also feature guest musicians, which has attracted prominent names from the UK jazz scene including Alex Clarke (BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year), Eddie Parker (Loose Tubes) and Martin Speake, as well as top Midlands players like Wayne Matthews, Matt Ratcliffe, Ian Hill, Steve O'Gorman, Richard Baker, Mellow Baku, Mike Sole, Rachel Johnson, Mark Trounson, Rob Charles, Gary Reader and James Tartaglia.
