Just a short trip out of the city centre, South Nottinghamshire has some wonderful attractions to explore and a great selection of bed and breakfasts, holiday cottages and campsites. With brilliant connections to our diverse neighbouring counties of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Derbyshire, the area has the wild greenery of the countryside whilst being close to the urban cool of the city.

We've put the spotlight on south Nottinghamshire and rounded up some of our favourite spots to sleep, eat and drink. Watch out for part two next week, looking at shopping and attractions in the area!

Canbyfield Holiday Cottages

This one bedroom self-catering cottage is modern and compact without losing any of the charm of the countryside. Cosy up on the chesterfield sofa in front of a log burning fire, or on a summer’s day throw open the French doors and relax while gazing out over the fields. Thornton’s Holt Camping (Radcliffe on Trent)

A quiet family camping park, in the rural hamlet of Stragglethorpe, Thornton’s Holt Camping Park has excellent facilities and is ideal for families. With a heated swimming pool and adventure playground it is easy to keep the kids entertained, and furry friends are welcome. In fact they have quite the menagerie themselves including three cats, a terrier called Pickle, two horses Spike & Spartacus, a mystery cat named Ditch and too many chickens to count!

Primrose House (Cotgrave)

This gorgeous B&B exudes the classic charm of a country cottage, with wooden beamed ceilings, cosy and elegant furnishings throughout. With a number of reasonably priced rooms to stay in, you can choose to stay in the main house, or the cottage next door. Pets are welcome and breakfast is a top quality full English – what more could you want from a B&B!

Hrempis Farm (Rempstone)

Open fires, an eclectic mix of antiques, snooker and style await you at Hrempis Farm, so you might not actually want to leave this gorgeous B&B. If venturing out however, you can explore the famous Quorn hunting country (perfect for vegetarians!), go for a walk in the Peak District or nip into Nottingham for shopping and culture!

Escabeche (West Bridgford)

The award winning Escabeche has brought the spirit and flavour of the Mediterranean to West Bridgford with al fresco seating, inventive tapas, and a unique ambiance to relax in. With flavoursome, colourful dishes, barista brewed coffees and Sunday acoustic sessions from talented local musicians, you’re likely to leave with that refreshing holiday vibe.

Wellington’s Bar & Bistro (Bradmore)

A partner of the Cherry Lane Garden Centre, Wellington’s Bar & Bistro is much more than your average garden centre café, it’s a quality business of its own. Boasting tasty Sunday carveries, afternoon tea, freshly roasted coffee from local connoisseurs 200 Degrees, and cosy seating areas, it’s worth a visit whether you have a garden or not!

Organ Grinder (Loughborough)

A truly traditional pub can be a rare find these days, but Blue Monkey brewery know what’s what when it comes to classic boozers. A sunny beer garden, great range of ales (many by Blue Monkey Brewery themselves), no nonsense pub snacks of pork pies and sausage rolls, a newspaper and perhaps a friendly dog. That’s all you need really.
