With our recent dose of good old British weather, who can say whether the summer has returned or the autumn is creeping slowly in? Rain or shine, this weekend Nottinghamshire hosts a fantastic variety of events and things to do!

A special shout out goes to Spandex Ballet at Nottingham Contemporary, which brings the skills and strength of wrestling into the art world with a variety of flamboyant performers. It's the final week of Covers: Retracing Reggae Record Sleeves in the UK at New Art Exchange which features over 50 reggae sleeves re-photographed decades later in their original locations, and is a must-see exhibition for any music or vinyl fan! And the DH Lawrence Festival of Culture continues, bringing a selection of poetry, readings, live music, and other activities to the mining town of Eastwood.

Heritage Open Days 2018

Nottinghamshire is full of hidden gems which tell of our county’s heritage. Beautifully preserved country houses, grand churches which have stood for hundreds of years, diverse museums dedicated to intricate subjects and the list goes on.

If there’s an attraction that has caught your eye but you haven’t got around to visiting yet, then this weekend is for you. Heritage Open Days see hundreds of UK heritage sites throwing open their doors for a wide range of tours, events and activities - and best of all, it's completely free! Discover the history of The Lace Market, explore the homes of Nottinghamshire’s rebel writers, see great machines which put the city at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, or find out why Newark was integral in the English Civil War. Plus loads more events to choose from!

Heritage Open Days are taking place across two weekends in 2018, so you have another chance to get exploring these awesome attractions next week also!

The atmosphere across Nottinghamshire is going to be electric this Saturday as the OVO Energy Tour of Britain speeds through the county, this year taking in the pretty towns and villages of both the north and south as we host Stage 7. Throughout the week the likes of Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome, and Ben Swift will be tackling 6 stages around the UK, with the penultimate race being West Bridgford to Mansfield.

The first musical to be produced by Nottingham Playhouse in 12 years, Sweet Charity had its opening night last Friday and has already been tipped as a top show to see this week in the UK by The Stage. Starring Olivier Award winning actress Rebecca Trehearn in the lead role, the story follows Charity, a down and out dancer in 60s NYC looking for love, happiness and success in a selfish and cynical world.

An electrifying musical comedy featuring stunning set-piece choreography and hits like Hey Big Spender, The Rhythm of Life and If My Friends Could See Me Now, Sweet Charity will make a perfect night out for anyone in need of a pick-me-up.

Nottingham Cocktail Week

The return of the brilliant weather has put all plans of hibernation on halt, and we’re certainly not ready for the summer to end just yet - so what better way to enjoy the first week of September than with Nottingham Cocktail Week?

Over 50 bars throughout the city centre are participating – whipping up lots of new creations to compete for the title of Nottingham’s best cocktail in three categories:

  • Collaboration cocktails uniting local businesses – such as 200 Degrees Coffee meets Café Sobar creation: the Virgin Espresso Martini

  • Nottingham themed cocktails, such as Curious Manor’s Cherry Bendigo – named after the city’s famous 19th century boxer, this features 5 Muddled blackberries, 2 dashes of cherry bitters, Lambs Navy Rum, elderflower cordial, lime juice.

  • Twist on a classic sees old recipes shaken up. We have our eye on The Lost City Adventure Golf Cubarb and Rhustard Daiquiri which combines Pussers Gunpowder Rum, Old J Gold, lime juice, homemade rhubarb and custard syrup!

Why not get out and explore Nottingham's excellent nightlife, have a cheeky lunchtime tipple, and take advantage of some great special offers throughout the city this week.
