Every autumn, Nottingham comes alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of Goose Fair—the city’s most iconic and beloved funfair! Held at the historic Forest Recreation Ground, this ten-day thrill-fest is a must-visit, whether you’re a lifelong local or just passing through.
No one knows exactly when Goose Fair first began (it’s that old!), but it’s been part of Nottingham’s story for centuries—possibly even over a thousand years. Yep, you read that right! Back in the medieval days, royal charters were the way towns got their official fairs, and Nottingham’s has stood the test of time.
From the clatter of roller coasters to the scent of candy floss and roast chestnuts, Goose Fair is pure nostalgic magic—and it’s still going strong.

If that doesn’t whet your appetite and get you eager to come and enjoy the fun of the fair, we’re not sure what will, so don’t forget to stick it in your diaries.
EAT
Sure, Goose Fair is packed with dizzying rides and carnival games—but let’s be honest: we all know the real star of the show is THE FOOD. And oh boy, does Goose Fair deliver! As soon as you step onto the Forest Rec grounds, your nose leads the way—the sweet, smoky, deep-fried magic is irresistible. Here’s a taste of what you’ll find:
- Classic Goose Fair Mushy Peas – Let’s start with the legend. These steaming hot mushy peas, often topped with mint sauce, are a Nottingham staple. No Goose Fair trip is complete without them.
- Doughnuts & Churros – Hot, sugary, straight-out-the-fryer goodness. Whether you're team ring doughnut or prefer your churros dipped in chocolate, it’s a sugar rush worth every bite.
- Street Food from Around the World – From gourmet burgers to Thai noodles, Greek gyros to loaded fries—it’s a global food tour without leaving the fairground.
- Candy Floss, Fudge & Toffee Apples – For those with a sweet tooth (and a nostalgia streak), Goose Fair brings the classics in full force.
- Giant Turkey Legs & Grilled Meats – Feeling medieval? Grab a giant turkey leg and channel your inner knight. Or tuck into sizzling sausages, kebabs, and smoky barbecue treats.
No matter your cravings, there’s something to nibble, munch, sip, or savour at every corner. Come hungry—and we recommend wearing stretchy trousers for the occcasion!
PLAY
Goose Fair isn’t just about the rides or the food (though we love both)—it’s also a paradise for game lovers of all ages. From old-school classics to modern challenges, the fairground is packed with stalls ready to test your skills, luck, and maybe your patience (in the best way).
- Hook-a-Duck & Ring Toss – Think you’ve got precision? These family favourites may look easy… but they’re sneakily tricky. Still, a big cuddly prize could be yours if the duck’s on your side!
- Test Your Strength – Step right up and swing the mallet! Whether you're showing off or just having a go for laughs, the strength test is a fairground rite of passage.
- Basketball & Dart Games – Channel your inner champ and aim for the win. Pop a balloon, shoot a hoop, or hit the bullseye—there’s always a new challenge waiting.
- Prize Stalls Galore – Giant teddy bears, inflatable bananas, and anime plushies bigger than your head—the prizes are half the fun (and half the reason we keep playing "just one more time").
- Arcade-Style Games – From coin pushers to claw machines, these blinking, beeping beauties bring that nostalgic seaside vibe straight to Nottingham.
- Thrill Challenges – Some stalls let you compete in fast-paced mini-games—race against your mates or beat the clock to win the goods
Whether you’re feeling lucky, competitive, or just want to win a cute plushie for your date, the games at Goose Fair are all part of the fun. Just don’t blame us when you have to carry a giant stuffed animal through Market Square
STAY
If you’re visiting the city just for the weekend and need somewhere to rest your head, there are plenty of hotels to consider, such as the Nottingham Sherwood Hotel which is handily just minutes from Goose Fair. Similarly, Roomzzz Nottingham is the ideal location for a stay in Nottingham with a prime spot on Talbot Street and close to the tram system, or walking distance for Goose Fair (under 1 mile). We also highly recommend Crowne Plaza Nottingham. Another city centre hotel close to the tram lines and less than a mile from the Goose Fair, it boats excellent restaurant and spa facilities.
