If you’re searching for a peaceful countryside escape with a dash of history and modern comfort, look no further than The Old Chapel Apartments in Edwinstowe, a picturesque North Nottinghamshire village just a stone’s throw from the legendary Sherwood Forest.
We recently treated ourselves to a weekend at this old chapel turned stylish apartment, lovingly transformed by Village Holidays, and wow, what a stunning space! The renovation has struck the perfect balance…sleek, modern elegance nestled within a beautifully preserved period building. With its soaring arched windows and lofty ceilings, the apartment’s past as a chapel shines through beautifully.
As soon as we walked in, bathed in early evening light, our jaws dropped. A warmly stocked welcome hamper awaited us with croissants, pain au chocolat, cereals, bread and even a bottle of prosecco. It was such a thoughtful touch, and we felt instantly at home.
The layout is clever and cosy; a modern, fully equipped kitchen, comfy dining and living area, and a dreamy mezzanine bedroom. The apartment sleeps up to four, perfect for families, with a double ensuite plus another bedroom with two singles. It’s the ideal combination of relaxation and space.
Situated right on Edwinstowe’s historic high street, The Old Chapel is the perfect location for exploring!
Edwinstowe is an historic village in the heart of Sherwood Forest, the home of Robin Hood. Legend has it that it was here, at the beautiful medieval church of St Mary, that Robin married Maid Marian. Look out for a beautiful bronze statue, crafted in their honour.
The world renowned, ancient Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and Nature Reserve is only a 10 minute walk away and home to the mighty 700+ year old Major Oak.
We spent many hours wandering beneath 500‑year‑old trees, spotting wildlife, and getting lost in Robin Hood folklore. Before heading back to the apartment in the evening, we popped into the local Dukeries Lodge for a pub dinner; great ales, hearty food and a friendly atmosphere in this newly refurbished pub rounded off our day perfectly.
Overall, from sunlit chapel vibes to enchanting forest adventures, our weekend at The Old Chapel Apartments was a true getaway from it all. Friendly hosts, thoughtful extras, and a magical location…it’s everything you could want for a restful family retreat.
We can’t wait to come back, either here or to try another Village Holidays property in the heart of Nottinghamshire!
