About

Please note that the carpark and toilets of Sherwood Pines Forest Park are open, but due to Coronavirus some other facilities including play area remain closed. Café is now back open as well offering take away only.

FREE admission, car park is £2 for one hour, £4 for two hours or £6 for the day

Sherwood Pines is the largest forest open to the public in the East Midlands with over 3,300 acres to discover. It’s a centre for a wide variety of outdoor activities from a relaxed stroll to Go Ape Tree Top Adventure and much, much more.

The cycling offer is particularly popular here as Sherwood Pines is a regional centre of excellence with a way marked Family Trail, Adventure Trail and the more demanding Kitchener’s Trail. Sustrans Route 6 also goes through the forest and from here you can pick up the cycle network to the broader region, including Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve and Clumber Park.

Facilities at Sherwood Pines Visitor Centre include cafe, cycle hire, children's adventure play trail and toilets. A short way marked woodland walk takes you to Robin Hood’s Hideout, recently declared a top ten English natural play spot. The sand play village aimed at young children and the raised walk way by the visitor centre are popular places too.

Families can enjoy a Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon themed glow trail full of puzzles. Lovable alien Lu-La has crashed landed in the forest and needs help to charge her communicator so she can call home for rescue. Download the free app or grab a Glow Trail kit from the visitor centre for £3.30 (includes a UV pen-torch, Shaun the Sheep ears, a clue sheet, an activity booklet, a sticker sheet and a pencil to make note of your answers) and get cracking on the acitivies and puzzels to help Lu-La escape from the Hazmats and find her way home.

Events take place throughout the year and The Forestry Commission regularly host Forest Live concerts and previous performers have included Paul Weller, Keane, Pulp, Jools Holland, Erasure, Simple Minds and Status Quo among others.

Sherwood Pines is open daily from 8am to dusk, admission is free although there is a car parking charge of £2 for one hour, £4 for 2 hours or £6 for the full day.
