The city’s growing fraternity of craft beer drinkers have new reason to celebrate after it was announced that the inaugural Nottingham Craft Beer Week will take place between Monday June 15 until Sunday June 21.
Over twenty bars, bottle shops and breweries are uniting to ‘promote and develop Nottingham’s love for craft beer’. Co-founder of Nottingham Craft Beer Week and director of Left Coast Distribution, Nigel Garlick, commented:
“We want to appeal to the uninitiated, the beer drinker and the beer geek.
For the casual drinker, we will be providing a series of bar and bottle shop led events where by we will endeavour to make craft beer more accessible. For the beer drinker, we want to hopefully introduce and inform about the endless possibilities of styles and tastes that craft keg beer can provide. Self-confessed beer geeks will be excited by news that there will be an influx of some new and truly amazing craft beers into the city.
Nottingham has the best real ale festival in Britain, run and supported by some of the most passionate beer drinkers in the country. Nottingham Craft Beer Week will show the outside world that our city also has many venues and brewers equally passionate about craft keg beers.
NCBW is also a chance for more bars to embrace the world of craft beer. It isn’t all about trendy hipsters sipping over-priced, over-hopped beers, as many detractors would have you think. It is just a celebration of the beers that do not comply to traditional brewing rules and regulations defined by real ale consumer groups such as CAMRA.
This is very much an independent, venue-led initiative that will promote craft beer sampling, meet-the-brewer evenings, brewery tours and live music events. There will be a website www.craftbeerweek.co.uk and a printed map to show where these events and venues are in the city. If Nottingham bars/venues want to get on board or brewers/trades from outside the city the can do so by contacting us at enquiries@craftbeerweek.co.uk"
Nottingham is the first city outside London to stage its own Craft Beer Week and as well as a welcome addition to the diaries of Nottingham residents, it will attract craft beer lovers from further afield. Attendees of the Trent Bridge One Day International v New Zealand and the Nottingham Cycle Live Weekend will also have something extra to look forward to when visiting the city.
The event’s official hashtag is #ncbw15.
