With back to back restaurants, Maid Marian Way is the place to be if you're hungry in the centre of Nottingham. Sat on the corner of Bromley place, with a modern glass-fronted exterior offering glimpses of the open wood-fired oven inside, Oaks has set itself apart from the crowd. One of Nottingham's newer eating and drinking spots, I still hadn't been to see - or rather taste - what everyone had been talking about since they opened. Though, after hearing about their new brunch menu, I didn’t need much persuading to go and try it for myself. Greeted first by the fantastic smell of the burning wood embers and then by smiley, welcoming staff, the restaurant has a slick but cosy interior with a spacious seating area. The dark decor, ambient lighting and DJ playing in the middle of the restaurant floor creates a fun but relaxed atmosphere for both daytime and evening dining. It is easy to picture how Oaks transforms into a bar at night. We were shown to our table by restaurant manager Marcos, who talked us through the menu. The new Bottomless Brunch is available every Saturday from 12-4pm;  it includes two courses and for two hours you can have as many Bloody Marys or glasses of prosecco as you'd like. I can't think of a better tonic for a Saturday afternoon and at just £12 a head for bottomless drinks, we thought it was very good value for money - and that was before we'd even tried our food! Oaks have a big focus on local produce, sourcing their meat from nearby Tuxford and you'll also find Nottingham-famous Castle Rock craft ales on tap. They specialise in handmade sausages, burgers and meats cooked over their wood-fired oven, but there is a lot of choice on the menu - including fish and veggie options. There was a family with two young toddlers sat nearby, which goes to show how well Oaks caters for everyone. My sister and I both picked from the Brunch Specials; I went for 'Smoked Organic Salmon Steak with Scrambled Eggs' and Yssy picked 'Avocado on Sourdough Toast with Poached Eggs', washed down with a mean, Tabasco loaded Bloody Mary. The salmon was deliciously blackened from the oven and the eggs were cooked to perfection - I particularly enjoyed trying the homemade Oaks sauces. Afterwards, we couldn't get enough of the doughnuts filled with Marsala cream. Oaks offer lots of regular deals throughout the week, including a midweek Lunch Treat for under £10, #Rumpday every Tuesday and Wednesday, special Sunday roasts and signature Oaks cocktails for £4.50 from Sunday-Friday. We were so impressed and with so many other offers to try, we won't even have to wait until next Saturday to go back for more. More details on Oaks Restaurant and Bar.
