Following the success of the inaugural Nottingham Craft Beer Week last summer, the event returns this July with many more breweries, bars and bottle shops involved. Taking place between Monday 4th July and Sunday 10th July the event promises craft beer drinkers a week of excellent beer from  all over the world. Over twenty bars, bottle shops and breweries are uniting to promote and develop Nottingham’s love for craft beer. Co-founder of Nottingham Craft Beer Week and director of Left Coast Distribution, Nigel Garlick, commented: “Last year was a pleasantly-surprising success and we are keen to take this to the next stage. Many people drank craft beer for the first time, many tried beers that they would never usually drink and many new favourite beers were found. There are more craft beers being brewed in Nottingham and this year we really want to shout about these too.” Nigel and the team at Junkyard and Nottingham’s newest pub The Herbert Kilpin have worked with Black Iris and Girvan Distillery to produce a barrel aged Belgian Tripel specially for Nottingham Craft Beer Week. There will be a sampling event during the week with the brewer Alex Wilson and Girvan’s Alwynne Gwilt, aka Miss Whisky, to discuss the brewing process, barrel aging and Girvan whisky. Nigel stated: “This is really what craft beer is about. Bringing together different parts of the drinks industry and producing something truly unique.” Other events include a series of tap-takeovers and meet the brewer nights at the Kean’s Head, featuring Somerset based brewery Wild Beer Co, Swedish gypsy brewers Omnipollo and Derbyshire’s finest, Buxton Brewery, who promise to bring some really special and rare beers with them. There will also be a pop-up micro festival at Hopkinson on Station Street on Saturday 9th July. Co-organised by Os Morgan of Kraftwerks and Matt Hinton of Brew Cavern, Kraft Cavern will be a showcase of some of best beer in the world, served across 11 taps from the likes of Mikkeller, Firestone Walker and De Molen. Magic Rock will be attending with two rarities and Kirkstall Brewery are running a meet the brewer presenting two cask and two keg beers including their Belgian Framboise. Smoqued will be parking their vintage Citroen Van out the front serving smoked street food and DJs will be spinning afro-cuban beats. Co-organiser Matt, said: “We really want to put Nottingham on the map as a destination city for craft beer. Nottingham Craft Beer Week is the start of that process, and by staging events like this we hope to inspire more drinkers from outside the area to visit, more local residents to start brewing and more great beer to begin to trickle in to the bars in this fine city.” Want to find out what’s happening during the week?
