Arboretum Garden Bar and Bandstand


Friday 28, Saturday 29 & 30 August 2020 12-9pm | Nottingham Arboretum | Free entry

Sit back in Nottingham’s oldest public park for a few alfresco drinks to the sound of local acoustic acts performing in the bandstand. Grab yourself a hay bale or bring a blanket, grab cold one from Camden Town Brewery bar and something delicious from the Nottingham Street Food Club stalls and enjoy the summer vibes. Once the acts finish a DJ will round off the evening with a set as the sun fades and the night begins.

Round off the summer holidays on a high with a visit to the wonderful Wollaton Hall and Deer Park this weekend. Pack a picnic and explore the 500 acres of lush grounds, where deer roam and wildlife flourishes, then head to the Adventure Park for some fun in the sun. Children aged 3-9 can get let of some steam on the trampolines, whizz around on the bumper cars, zip along on the mini roller coaster or take a swing at crazy golf.

Sample the best street food from the region at the Central heat of the 2020 British Street Food Awards - the biggest street food competition in the world! Hosted by Nottingham Street Food Club in the buzzing Avenues of Sneinton Market in the heart of the Creative Quarter, each day there’ll be a selection of enticing traders to choose from and a bar providing liquid refreshments. Journalists, foodies and top chefs will be on hand to offer expert advice before the crowds cast their votes to crown the winner.

Is there anything more wholesome than homemade, freshly baked bread? Head to Nottingham’s pretty windmill and let your little ones discover for themselves at these ever-popular workshops. Children ages 3 and up can get stuck in making their own delicious bread using flour stoneground in the mill. If you’ve missed dancing the night away and the excitement of live music, the grounds of the beautiful Belvoir Castle is the place to be this weekend. Grab yourself a socially-distanced ‘picnic pitch’ in front of the stage and get set for a brilliant evening out. Saturday’s line-up features two talented tribute acts performing all the best hits from Elvis and Queen, while Sunday will see acoustic performer Shaney Lea Pacey take to the stage, followed by the Blues Brothers Tribute and all your favourite country hits courtesy of  Dolly Parton Experience & Country Superstars.

Steaming Days at Papplewick Pumping Station

Sunday 30 & Monday 31 August 2020 | Papplewick Pumping Station | Tickets: £10.50 adults, £8.50 concessions, free for under 16s

After months of being closed, the historic and ornate Papplewick Pumping Station – the finest working water works in the land - is back with its first steaming of the year! a stunning feat of Victorian architecture and engineering, the James Watt beam engines that once pumped water from out of the sandstone for the citizens of Nottingham will be in full steam fired by the Lancashire boiler along with regular demonstrations of the rare Robey winding engine from Linby Colliery. The resident Blacksmith will be working the forge while out on the lawn there will be a display of classic motorcycles. Please note that admission will be a limited number of pre-purchased tickets only to allow for social distancing, so please book now to avoid disappoint.

Homegrown Festival

Let’s face it, 2020 hasn’t been a great year but music festivals, but fans of live music rejoice – that’s about to change with Nottingham’s own Homegrown Festival. From the team behind Nottingham’s biggest summer party, Splendour, Dot-to-Dot and countless live music events comes a one-day party in the park in conjunction with BBC Introducing. See the best of Nottingham’s live music scene, with performances from the likes of Rob Green, Georgie and Unknown Era (acoustic set) on the Arboretums bandstand, while the Fringe stage provides entertainment for all the family. Nottingham Street Food Club with be on hand serving up amazing eats, with Camden Town Brewery beers on tap at their container bar and local Ales to sip in the (fingers crossed) sunshine.
