How to Spend the Perfect Summer’s Day in Nottingham

When the sun is shining, there is nowhere quite like Nottingham. Packed with history, independent businesses, picturesque parks and vibrant food and drink spots, the city offers everything you need for an unforgettable Summer’s Day.   

I decided to start my day at the National Justice Museum, where Nottingham’s fascinating past comes to life. Housed in the city’s historic former courthouse and gaol, it’s one of those places which immediately draws you in. As I explored the old courtrooms, prison cells and underground caves, I discovered gripping stories of crime and punishment over the centuries. With interactive exhibits and costumed guides bringing history to life, it was a memorable way to kick off a summer day in the city.   

If you're left wanting more, the museum's evening events are well worth adding to your diary. On 30 July, the popular Crime Club: Transportation to America delves into the little-known history of Britain's convicts who were sent to North America before transportation to Australia, with real crime stories, historical evidence and a welcome drink included. Or, if you fancy putting your detective skills to the test, Murder Mystery: Don't Look Back in Anger on 29 August invites guests to solve a 1990s-inspired whodunnit. Both events are for over-18s and booking is essential.

After a fascinating morning exploring Nottingham’s history, I was ready to slow the pace and enjoy a leisurely lunch.
