Belvoir Castle has launched its biggest season in a decade with a packed visitor programme and new attractions to follow the opening of its £2.5 million artisan shopping village.

Escape rooms, for one reason or another, have experienced a surge in popularity in the last decade. Perhaps it’s because we love to watch others struggling with complex challenges, perplexing puzzles and ludicrous labyrinths on television (The Crystal Maze, anyone?) howling at the screen while the frantic, fumbling participants crack under pressure. Creswell Crags never ceases to amaze us. Located on the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, this limestone gorge has a wealth of history dating back 60 thousand years.

It wasn’t too long ago that we were telling you about the only-verified-in-the-UK Ice Age cave paintings, dating back to the prehistoric period. A time when migrating hunter-gatherers and animals moved according to the seasons in search of food and warmer weather. The good old days.

Visit Nottinghamshire never passes up an opportunity to explore Derby Road, so when we heard that Focus Gallery had reopened following a major refurbishment over Christmas, we were determined to be the first through the doors to see the new look. We headed over to meet the owner, Antonia Disney, for a cuppa and a sneak peek at some of the latest artwork.
