It’s no secret that the National Justice Museum has, well, secrets. Just one step into the imposing entrance hall of this majestic building and you can feel seven centuries of history bearing down upon you. How many thousands of convicts have walked through these walls to find out their fate? And don’t even get us started on the dungeons and all of the terrible tales they have to tell.

Visit Nottinghamshire never passes up an opportunity to explore Derby Road, so when we heard that Focus Gallery had reopened following a major refurbishment over Christmas, we were determined to be the first through the doors to see the new look. We headed over to meet the owner, Antonia Disney, for a cuppa and a sneak peek at some of the latest artwork.

Too often these hidden gems remain the reserve solely of those in the know, and while you may not have heard of them before, we’re certain that once you visit, you’ll be glad you did.

Nottingham’s association with great beer goes way back. In 1752 its celebrity was cemented in a popular ballad, the chorus of which boldly declares ‘no liquor on earth like Nottingham Ale’. For Tryanuary we wanted to share a few of Nottingham’s brilliant breweries continuing our rich heritage, and where to sample their tasty tipples.

On the hunt for something to drag us well and truly out of our drowsy, post-Christmas slump, Visit Nottinghamshire headed to Zaap Thai Street Food, hoping to find a warm welcome to chase away the cold, and strong, fiery flavours to banish the January blues.
